Description and purpose
Reusable transport Type A packages UKTMIA-RT are intended for transportation of sealed radionuclide sources, radioactive materials and high energy gamma (PET) radiopharmaceuticals in solid and liquid state by road, rail, air, sea and inland waterways.
UKTMIA-30.3-RT-5These packages are waterproof and airtight. Radioactive sources and radiopharmaceuticals can be safely contained in re-usable Type A packages during transfer and storage to protect operators and the environment from contamination and exposure to alpha, beta, and gamma radiation.
UKTMIA-30.3-RT-5 consists of a shielded container and an external protective case. The external protective case is a plastic container that is locked with regular locks. The shielded container consists of a body and a lid made of tungsten 30 mm thick. The tungsten alloy has the advantages of high melting point, high hardness, high radiation absorption rate, good corrosion resistance, good mechanical strength, high temperature resistance, impact resistance, environmental protection and durability. The shielded container is used as protection against ionizing radiation. Centering inserts are used to prevent displacement inside the external protective case, and help to absorb impacts. The main parameters and dimensions of the UKTMIA-30.3-RT-5 must comply with Table 1.

The equivalent dose rate of gamma radiation of ionizing materials complies with the requirements of NP-053-16 «Safety Rules for the Transportation of Radioactive Materials» (No. SSR-6 «Regulations for the Safe Transport of Radioactive Materials») for Type A packages not higher than Category III. Type A packaging complies with IAEA requirements. The maximum permissible activity of transported radioactive materials should not exceed the values specified in Table 2.

When transporting radioactive contents, glass ampoules or penicillin vials are used as primary packaging. UKTMIA-30.3-RT-5 are intended for transportation of 18F – FDG (Fluorodeoxyglucose), 60Co, 90Sr, 137Cs (for example, sources GID-C-1-1, IGI-C-3-4, IGI-Ts-3-5, IGI-C-3-6, IGI-C-3-7, IGI-C-3-11, IGI-C-3-9, IGI-C-4-1, IGI-C-4-2, IGI-C-4-3) and 177Lu.

UKTMIA-30.3-RT-5 have the appropriate permits and a passport and meet the requirements of NP-053-16 «Safety Rules for the Transportation of Radioactive Materials», OSPORB 99/2010, SP 2.61.2612-10 «Basic Sanitary Rules for Ensuring Radiation Safety», NRB-99/2009, SanPin 2.6.1.2523-09 «Radiation Safety Standards», as well as «Rules for the Safe Transport of Radioactive Materials» (Editions 2012 (SSR-6), IAEA, 2013).
The number of packages, as well as their content, are determined depending on the content of the cargo being transported. Detailed information about the permitted content of the transported cargo is disclosed in the permit certificate.
